What is Club 30?

Club 30 is a small, friendly discord for lonely people to hang out and chat in about the topic of the day. Or the topic of the week, or the week before, or whatever else strikes your fancy. Awkwardness is fine, shyness is fine, and jumping into conversations from time to time is fine. Being an asshole isn’t. (Scroll down to ‘Rules’ for our asshole definition.)

You don’t have to be exactly 30 or anywhere close to it to join. All we ask is that you are over 18 and are aware that there will be NSFW chat sometimes.

We were born on meme, so no one’s going to take offense if you call them a nonnie by mistake. If you judge people for being on FFA then you should probably give this server a miss 👀.

What do?

We chat 😌. To get past the fact that we are often all too fucking shy to say anything unprompted & without permission, we have a daily rotating topic pinned in the #events channel on discord. We also have regular weekly topics, with the schedule roughly as follows:

- Wednesday: animal pic dump

- Friday: food chat

- Saturday & Sunday: fandom chat

To suggest a daily topic, or a fun/interesting/horrifying twist on one of the weekly themes, trundle over to the topic masterpost (currently a pastebin because lazy). Past topics are collated there half for warning and half for inspiration. Topics can repeat but unless there’s a strong need for three days of cat photos in a row (which is sometimes necessary), it’s preferred we change shit up.

We have a somewhat cringey monthly event called Are You Alive on the 17th of every month, where we all celebrate the dubious joy of being alive. If you don’t celebrate hard enough (read: if you’ve opted in to the event, don’t check in beforehand to say you’ll miss it, and don’t drop in to chat on the 17th), the mod will PM you a couple days later to ask if you are still alive.

The Rules, and also, The Asshole Definition

Our basic rule for how to conduct yourself in all Club 30 spaces is pretty simple: don’t be an asshole. Think meme levels of asshole, then take it down another notch or two.

Currently, our asshole definition boils down to “extremely determined to discuss [unwanted topic]”, whether said topic is as heavy as obvious bigoted bullshit, or as light as, idk, some recent furniture wank no one wants to re-wank.

The current, extra unwanted topics are:

- fatwank in all shapes and sizes (permanent)

- purity discourse, a.k.a. shipwank dressed up as wokeness/protecting children/condemning sinful adults (permanent)

- politics (temporary)

There isn’t an exhaustive list of do’s and don’ts here, but what is here should give you a decent idea of what kind of behavior isn’t welcome.
